Memphis sophomore defensive back Jashon Watkins-Perkins became the latest Tigers football player to enter the transfer portal.
Watkins-Perkins announced his decision Saturday. He appeared in just two games after signing with the Tigers’ 2019 class.
“I will always treasure the experiences and friendships I have gained over the years. Being apart of the Tiger Nation will always hold a spot in my heart,” Watkins-Perkins said in his statement on Twitter.
Watkins-Perkins, who attended East Nashville Magnet School, signed with the Tigers as a three-star recruit holding offers from Tennessee, Ole Miss and Florida, among others.

The Tigers are still deep in their secondary with starters Quindell Johnson, Rodney Owens and Greg Rubin returning. Safety Sanchez Blake is also eligible for an additional season.
Watkins-Perkins is also the latest Nashville native to transfer from Memphis. Defensive back TJ Carter and offensive lineman Obinna Eze left for TCU after the 2020 season.
Defensive lineman Joseph Honeysucker also left the team after the 2019 season. At the time, coach Ryan Silverfield said Honeysucker was retiring from football but Honeysucker is now enrolled at Middle Tennessee.
The Tigers have seen 10 players enter the transfer portal since the start of preseason practice in August.
