SOUTH KITSAP – A man was rescued from his vehicle after he drove off Southworth Drive into the water near the Harper Pier on Friday night.
Pictures posted on social media by South Kitsap Fire and Rescue showed the vehicle had gone through a guard railing along the water. Crews were called to the scene shortly before 8:30 p.m. Friday.
South Kitsap Fire and Rescue said that three bystanders made initial contact with the driver and stayed with him until crews reached him. Two rescue swimmers reached the man and brought him to shore, Lt. Laine Desilets said, noting that the man was in the water for less than 20 minutes.
The driver was taken to St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor as a precautionary measure, Desilets said.
