One person was taken into custody following a pursuit on Highway 3 that ended near Gorst on Sunday night, but two others in the same vehicle evaded law enforcement, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The incident began with an attempted traffic stop on Highway 3 near Trigger Avenue at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday, Trooper Katherine Weatherwax said, noting that the driver hit 90 mph and didn’t stop. State Patrol troopers didn’t pursue the vehicle.
Later, the vehicle was spotted on Old Belfair Highway, and Mason County Sheriff’s deputies pursued it heading north on Highway 3, Weatherwax said. Troopers successfully hit the vehicle with spike strips twice, once near the Amazon delivery center and once near Sunnyslope Road, and the vehicle eventually came to a stop near Windy Point, north of Gorst.
One woman was taken into custody, and two men escaped the area. A lane on Highway 3 was blocked off for the immobilized vehicle, and a K-9 unit was brought in to help with tracking the men but was unsuccessful in finding them, Weatherwax said.
