The person killed in a fire at a North Kitsap residence on Saturday has been identified as a Jefferson County teen.
Kitsap County Coroner Jeff Wallis identified the woman killed in the blaze as 18-year-old Ariel Nieman, of Port Ludlow. An autopsy was performed Monday morning. Nieman died of smoke inhalation, and the death was ruled an accident, Wallis said.
The blaze burned a residence off Falkner Road, near Highway 3 north of Kitsap Memorial State Park, on Saturday afternoon. When firefighters arrived, they found the home fully engulfed in flames.
“Multiple” patients escaped the home with minor injuries, Poulsbo Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Rahl said. No one was taken to a hospital.
The residence was a detached garage-shop that had been converted to living spaces, Rahl said. Firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading into a nearby mobile home. After they extinguished the flames, they then began a search, which led them to Nieman’s body.
